Draft0 RCHI Case Study- Nagari Nivara Parishad- Dindoshi, Mumbai

This project was born out of a public agitation ( in 1981) by a group of 4000 Mumbai citizens mostly low income segment city workers agitating to demand for a Government land grant for building affordable housing in Mumbai. The community was supported and organized by NNP (Nagari Nivara Parishad) a NGO (non-government organization, a registered non-profit private trust) in the neighborhood. A week long hunger strike (fast unto death) in 1987 by NNP members and stakeholders finally led the State government to grant 62 acres of land to NNP in 1992 (representing only part of the land acquired by the state government for public purposes under the Urban Land Ceiling Act of 1976).
