Case summary-Banda Aceh, Uplink Project Indonesia

Banda Aceh, Indonesia. This area was hit the hardest by the 2004 earthquake. Uplink aid organization sent an emergency response team. At the time the Indonesian government developed a large-scale plan that included a massive relocation. Uplink campaigned against the forced relocation and proposed for an alternative plan that allowed residents to rebuild where they lived. Uplink led a community survey, mapping and needs assessment and created Jaringan Udeep Beausaree (JUB), which consists of 26 affected communities. JUB helped with the post-tsunami spatial planning, which involved better access to roads and escape routes as well as clear vistas toward the sea and hillside. They wanted to bring back the beauty of its natural setting. For detailed case study
